Why luxury vinyl flooring is trending

It started a few years ago and, every year since the numbers for luxury vinyl flooring (LVF) keep increasing. The economy always plays a significant role in the making of a trend and, while shoppers are coming out indroves, they are looking for value. Nothing provides so much value for the decorating dollar as vinyl.

Flooring stands the test of time

Trends have a proven track record, but thorough analysis and careful consideration have been updated to reflect current needs. For example, vinyl was introduced to the US Market in 1930 when it was highly praised for affordability, durability, easy-care and straightforward installation. It still has those characteristics, but it's been updated to be more in line with modern needs and decor.

Wood and marble floors are popular today, as are encaustic-style and filigree tiles, and they are all available as those looks. While the images are clear and vibrant, the incredible realism is increased even more with the material being cut into boards for vinyl plank flooring or groutable squares for LVT flooring. As for functionality, people more and more lead active lives and want waterproofing, extra durability, and floors they don't need to scrub. Fads are knee-jerk reactions, usually from one or two people, with crazes that quickly come and go and, frankly, add little value.

Other luxury vinyl flooring benefits include:

1. Durability. LVF is layered, and that, in itself, makes a product more robust and more rigid. In addition, there is a top, transparent, melamine wear layer that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs. The product is also 100% waterproof from bottom to top, meaning it can be submerged or spilled on and still be okay.

2. Easy-care. Sweep regularly (daily, if possible) and mop periodically. Be sure to use a manufacturer-approved cleaner and avoid wax, shine-promoting ones as they can damage the finish and dull the floor. If you feel you need more shine, seek advice from us.

3. Uncomplicated installations. They can be floating floors where the pieces click together, mat, then hover over the subfloor without nails or glue. Subfloors must be clean, dry, and level. A debris-free subfloor is essential since imperfections can telegraph to the surface and affect appearance.
